TILLEY’S PROPOSED FUTURE
Tilley is the original Manea Manual Fire Pump. In 1830 a committee was formed with
the aim of raising enough money to purchase a fire pump for Manea following a spate
of fires in the village. Tilley was paid for by subscriptions from landowners, farmers and
Manea residents, arriving here in 1846.
Tilley has been on display and stored in several locations but has recently returned to
the village and has always remained property of the community of Manea. To safeguard
Tilley for the future and attach her to a recognised public organisation it is proposed
that Manea Parish Council become her custodians. This will give us clarity for insurance
purposes and help unlock grant funding to provide Tilley with a permanent home to be
on display in the village.
Tilley will be on display at the Parish Council stand at the Gala and Councillors will be on
hand to answer questions about this proposal.
