AN IDB SUMMER

Nature, it is said, can be a cruel
mistress. I can confirm in 2024 she
has been a very fickle one. This year
has been very wet, and yet as I write
this on the hottest day of the year
so far, the winter wetness seems
far away. Manea & Welney District
had a busy winter for pumping, and
it continued well into the spring. Dry
spells seemed to last at best about
three days, and then cool, damp, dull
     weather returned.

                                                        At full stretch

We kept saying that things would
change, and eventually they did and
                                             my summer work could commence.

Mowing the drain sides is a summer
long exercise. By making a start as
early as we can, we deny one side
of each section of drain to breeding
wildlife, giving us the ability to carry
out any maintenance we need to,
                                             and allowing the undisturbed side
                The way ahead
