MANEA MATTERS
MANEA MATTERS
Community defibrillators and
equipment
The CFRs in Manea also hold responsibility for
the maintenance of the 5 community access
defibrillators (AEDs) located around the village:
The Rose & Crown, The Pavilion, The Village
Hall, The Fire Station and 14/16 Charlemont
Drive. Access to these defibrillators can only be
granted following a call to 999, who will then
determine if it is necessary and will provide the
access code.
Fun Fact – the CFR kit
weighs almost 20kg
These AEDs are not cheap to maintain and CFRs are required to carry a range of equipment,
require new pads every 2 years, or after use (£45 for example: AED, blood pressure monitor,
each – 2 sets per AED), They need to be stored infrared ear thermometer, oxygen saturation
at the correct temperature so all the cabinets in monitor, bandages & dressings, glucose,
the village are heated and cost in region of £450 resuscitation equipment, and oxygen and
to replace. associated masks.
One of our CFR kits and responder phones is
provided to us by the ambulance service, whilst
the other is fully funded by us through charity
funds and donations.
Our special thanks go The Oddfellows Society
who have picked us as their chosen charity
this year, and to Manea resident, Simon Kirby,
who has kindly offered to sponsor one of our
responder phones.
If anyone is interested in the role
of the CFR, or wishes to discuss
becoming one, please feel free
to contact Ben for an informal
discussion on: 07757 363231.
