                         Thoughts from the Rectory

The Easter story never fails to astound those who give it thoughtful
consideration, however many times they have heard the Easter
story it’s still amazing. So let me tell you another story.
Two boys, who have been lifelong friends, who have shared
life together from their very first day in school right up
to their college days. One graduated at the top of his
class and became a distinguished judge. The other dropped
out of university, got involved in the drugs scene, and was
eventually caught by the police. Through an extraordinary turn of
events the man stands trial before his old friend, who is now a judge.
There is a great deal of murmuring in the court room about what the judge
is going to do and how he will handle this trial. What will his verdict be? To the
court’s surprise the judge sentences his friend to the maximum fine allowed by
the law, there is much uproar in the court. The judge bangs his gavel down and asks
for order. In the quietness that follows he then takes out his cheque book and pays
         the entire amount himself.
Is that not the glorious, wonderful, life-changing message of Easter and Holy Week?
