CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS
100 YEARS SINCE THE OPENING OF THE HALL

13th March 1925 Opening Ceremony
A public meeting was held to form a 14th October 1925
committee to establish a scheme for the
erection of a village Hall. Fifteen Members A formal opening was held and attended
were elected and the Chairman was Mr H O by Sir Hugh Lucas Tooth, accompanied by
Crouch. The villagers raised over £1,400 in Lady Lucas Tooth and Mr E Shepperson MP
the first few weeks. for North Herefordshire. Many residents of
the village and district assembled for this

Mr H O Crouch extended a hearty welcome
to Sir Hugh and expressed congratulations
on his engagement to Miss Finlay. Sir Hugh
then began the task of laying the 1st stone.
“I declare this stone to be well and truly
laid“
Sir Hugh expressed surprise at such a large
undertaking of all the village residents
involved. Another stone was laid by Alfred
Crouch.
The first part of the procedure was the
unveiling of a stone in front of the Hall in
commemoration of the opening. The stone
was veiled with the Union Jack and, at the
Chairman’s request, Sir Hugh performed
the unveiling ceremony.
A silver key, bearing the words “Village
Hall, Manea 1925” was then handed by the
Chairman to the member, who unlocked
